Route types and connection differences
IEPL, relay and direct connections are not simply different service tiers. They use different entry arrangements and make different trade-offs between connection stability, regional coverage, routing flexibility and operating cost.
IEPL
IEPL
IEPL connections use a more controlled international path, reducing unpredictable detours and congestion on public networks. Their value is usually most apparent in stability during busy periods, rather than in a momentary peak on a single test. For continuous video playback, longer remote meetings, repository syncing and online tools that require stable sessions, these routes are more likely to deliver a consistent experience.
Dedicated route resources and maintenance cost more, so they suit tasks where stability comes first. Always check the destination region: when accessing services in Asia, there is no need to choose a more distant entry simply because it is labeled IEPL. For services in North America or Europe, compare the relevant IEPL locations first.
RELAY
Relay connections
A relay connection sends traffic to a nearby entry point first, then forwards it through an intermediate link to the destination region. Separating entry and exit points lets the service arrange a more suitable path based on region, carrier network and use case. Compared with a purely direct connection, relays generally offer more routing flexibility, especially when the destination is far away or public-network routes change frequently.
More hops do not automatically make a relay better. An effective relay should avoid unnecessary detours and maintain clear roles between the entry and exit points. For everyday access to international websites, AI tools or overseas work systems, a relay can be a practical balance of coverage and stability; adjust it based on actual loading and session performance.
DIRECT
Direct connections
A direct connection links your current network straight to a server in the destination region. With a simpler structure and fewer routing stages, it suits regions where the public-network path is already smooth. It is often used for regular web browsing, information searches and light file transfers, or kept as a backup alongside IEPL and relay entries. In nearby regions with stable interconnection, direct routes can provide a simple and effective experience.
Direct connections are more sensitive to changes in the local network and international exits. The same city entry may perform differently on different networks, so its name alone is not a reliable predictor. If pages respond slowly, streamed output pauses or long connections drop, try a relay in the same region before switching to a much more distant country.
